Citizens’ Assembly
IN THE FACE OF CLIMATE COLLAPSE, WE NEED A SPEED LIMIT OF 100 KM/H ON GERMAN HIGHWAYS AND A PERMANENT 9-EURO-TICKET now.
1.
A speed limit of 100km/h! The majority already agrees, there should be a speed limit on German highways. A speed limit of 100 km/h would reduce more than 6.7 million tons of CO22 a year. That's almost as much as Costa Rica or Paraguay emit in a year. But honestly? In this life-threatening human crisis, every bit we can save matters. That's why we're calling for 100 km/h on German highways. A speed limit at the very least would save lives here and now, because there would be fewer traffic fatalities .
2.
A permanent 9-Euro-Ticket! Affordable public transportation in times of rising living costs is only fair! In addition, a 9-euro ticket would also save quite a bit of CO₂.
The government is failing to introduce even initial security measures.
We demand a Citizens' Assembly!
The government has so far been unable to introduce even the simplest safety measures such as a speed limit or a permanent 9-euro ticket. This political impotence must end. In view of the existential threat posed by the climate catastrophe, we want society to come together in an emergency meeting.
- We call on the federal government to convene a Citizens' Assembly that develops measures to make Deutschland bis 2030 die Nutzung fossiler Rohstoffe beendet.
- We demand that the government publicly pledge to introduce the bills related to the measures developed into parliament.
- We demand that the government does the necessary persuasion work in parliament for the measures and legislative projects.
- We demand that the government publicly pledge to implement the laws with unprecedented speed and determination once they are passed.
In a Citizens' assembly, people from all walks of life in Germany come together and, with the help of experts from politics, business, science and civil society, work out measures on how to proceed. The participants are chosen by lot and together they form a Germany in miniature.
Vegans and car lovers alike can come together to discuss solutions, because in the end even they have can find a common cause in protecting life on this planet and shaping the way to achieve this in a socially just manner.
The government wrote the following into its coalition agreement: "We will establish and organize a citizens' council on specific issues through the Federal Parliament." We take them at their word, because role models from France, Ireland, Belgium show that this format unites people in their efforts and produces constructive solutions.
We demand that we, the 99 percent, finally have a say in the preservation of our livelihoods. Because it has been shown: A better, safer, fairer world is always waiting where citizens are allowed to make informed decisions about their own fate.
