WHO WE ARE
The government ignores all warnings. It is still fuelling the climate crisis and has brought us to the edge of an abyss.
We are no longer willing to accept this crime against humanity without resistance. We will not wait while one state after another collapses. In the end, we are all in danger. We are the will to survive of this society.
Before the 2021 federal election, a hunger strike shook the country and ensured that one of the new Chancellor Olaf Scholz's first appointments was to talk to us about the climate catastrophe. Since the chancellor showed no awareness of the existential threat to society posed by the climate crisis, people under the name of the Last Generation began blocking Germany's busiest highway in early 2022.
We have returned to Berlin time and time again, blocking the A100 and other major roads there. Let's be clear, we do not like doing this, but we see this civil resistance as our best chance to bring about the change we need to reverse our destructive course.
For weeks, people turned off oil pipelines over and over again. Street blockades in Frankfurt am Main, the heart of the fossil fuel madness where billions are financing the destruction of our future, brought dozens into police custody for up to a week. In Munich, people were repeatedly taken into preventive custody for long periods of time to keep them from protesting. In some cases, for up to 30 days at a time.
We are the last generation that can still prevent society from collapsing. Facing this reality, we accept high fees, criminal charges and deprivation of liberty undaunted.
Letzte Generation receives most of our funding for recruitment, training, capacity building, and education from Climate Emergency Fund. The fund has been part of an international network of civil resistance projects, since April 2022. It is called the A22 Network.
